I'm trying this out:

Dban - Darik's Boot and Nuke

I have a PC at work setup with a CDROM and I have been using the bootable CD version of dban. I attached two drives at a time two IDE1, boot the CD, type DoD at the prompt and it does a seven pass write to the drive.

There is a DoD Short (3 passes), however I'm using the DoD full (DoD 5220-22.M - 7 passes).

Anyway, great tool. Not as fun as a sledge hammer though.

Here's a decent article on it: http://software.newsforge.com/
